Milkwood is a vision in white, blonde wood and hints of green detailing. It’s petite, cosy rather than cramped, with intimate tables for fewer than 30 brunchers. The whitewashed walls, simple breakfast/lunch fare and cheerful greetings are so wholesome they’d just about make a milkmaid look rough. Think generous bowls of muesli and cinnamon yoghurt, ricotta pancakes with banana and coconut, or cheese, house relish and basil melts.
The ladies, Di Korndorffer and Alex Paterson, tell us the space was previously the short-lived Cafe 120 and that when they saw it they instantly fell in love. Take one look at the beautiful pitched barn-roof and it’s easy to feel the same way.
All baking is done on-site and there’s a shelf of house-made preserves that just adds to the tidied up farmstead feel. Check out the pre-loved gate doubling as art on the back wall. It’s so beautifully simple you’ll wonder why anything more complicated is necessary.
