French Fantasies was once just a small shopfront of a bakery located on Toorak Road up towards Punt Road, next door to France-Soir. For years (over 20 in fact) they have supplied many top restaurants around Melbourne with bread and pastries. They still do, but now also run their own cafe next door.

The simple, slick interior is bright and the shining light is the display cabinet of sweet and savoury pastries, decadent cakes and baguettes filled with ham and cheese, terrine, or roast beef. The two-seater tables are tightly packed and bookended by white wrought iron chairs. On display behind the counter are bread sticks and jams, on top of the counter sit macarons and brioche. They also serve breakfast and lunch from a small kitchen out the back, with simple French dishes such as cheesey croque monsieurs, buttery omelettes with salmon and French onion soup.

Much like a patisserie in France all the staff are French too, which makes your pain au chocolat feel all the more French when they say bon appetit.
