Common Galaxia is the second venture of Luke Mutton and Kylie Mackinlay, the couple behind Dead Man Espresso in South Melbourne.

From head to toe, Common Galaxia presents itself as a considered space. The warm but understated interior built by Fido Projects, the cutlery and menu caddies hanging individually from tables as well as the leather and timber chairs made by locals LifeSpaceJourney, and the pour over rack and timber stools designed by Illogical Study all point to Mutton and Mackinlay’s attention to detail.

The menu offers all the breakfast staples, but with locally sourced ingredients and unexpected twists on each item, as well as a delicious selection of baked eggs. For lunch goers, there is a selection of smorrebrod (Danish open sandwiches) with sophisticated offerings like roasted pork with apple, braised cabbage and fennel jam, as well as eggplant caviar, pickled pumpkin, brussel sprouts and chevre.

As with Dead Man Espresso, coffee is a focus, with offerings from staple suppliers Seven Seeds and Market Lane taking centre stage. And for those wanting something more than a paper cup to take away, there is the cleverly crafted coffee caddy again from locals LifeSpaceJourney.
