The Breakfast Club
206 St Georges Road
Northcote

While its name references an era-defining movie and afternoons spent picking chewing gum off the underside of school desks, the cafe itself more broadly evokes the memories of childhood.

It's a small, cosy space (a bit too cosy on weekends) that feels homely, and many of the customers are regulars; tea is served in teapots wrapped snugly in tea cosies and fresh flowers are placed on the tables next to nan’s napkin holders.

The highlights of the menu at The Breakfast Club are, perhaps unsurprisingly, the breakfast options: the baked egg dishes are a substantial way to start the day, and it’s a sweet delight to have cinnamon toast on the menu. Some of the dishes even pay homage to childhood with Baby Bear’s Porridge and the Bananarama. As the names suggests, The Breakfast Club is a place to meet for breakfast that spills over into lunch, and so it closes quite early at 3pm. But if you're in the area later than that you can always drop into Next Door.
