With over 15 years under their belt, Babka shows that great bread isn’t new to Melbourne. Inspiring and training some of our key local bakers, Babka, with its rustic bread and excellent sweets, is an institution. Perhaps the main thing that changes here is the queue that gets longer. With an Eastern European influenced café that is constantly full, Babka offers unusual breakfast and lunch fare, traditional borscht, cream cheese blintzes, house-made pies, perfect poached eggs and lemon tart with a tang that’ll make you squint your eyes. A local favourite is the egg brioche or challah – a pretty braid of soft, sweet bread. We suggest you brave the long weekend queue to get some takeaway shoo fly buns – better than their hot cross buns only because they are available all year round. |
