A converted warehouse on North Melbourne’s main drag, Auction Rooms is fairly innocuous from the outside. Housed in the old WB Ellis auction house, this coffee roastery and cafe could almost be mistaken for just another urban space awaiting transformation. But once inside, the industrial-chic interior and the sounds of the enormous red coffee roaster let you know that you’ve found something special.
Although it offers dinner three nights a week, Auction Rooms is favoured for its reasonably priced and adventurous brunch menu. But while you may come for the food, you will definitely stay for the coffee. Specialty blends are roasted on site, and the cafe offers a ‘coffee of the day’ alongside their regular variety.
Covering an entire wall of the cafe is a selection of these beans to buy for home coffee brewing too. Auction Rooms is a shining light amongst the North Melbourne cafe scene, and their dedication to the humble brown bean is sure to keep caffeine addicts satisfied.
