The Kodiak bear is America’s largest species of bear, and like the venue, brings to mind the Alaskan wilderness, warm hunting lodges, frontier myths and good rye whiskey (or bourbon).

Celebrating many of the things that make American food and drink culture great, The Kodiak Club presents a warm space full of the promise of tasty offerings. Bourbon and rye whiskies hold a focus in the bar, yet they are balanced by shrewd clean selections of wines, beers and a very tasty cocktail list. Meanwhile novelties like trashy canned Mexican beers and root beer add tongue-in-cheek value.

The kitchen offers a trove of classics we don’t often see in Melbourne, like buffalo wings, house-made corn bread, sticky lamb ribs (an Australian take on the theme), molasses-laced Illinois meatballs and plenty more to delight. Just for drinks? Enjoy addictive pretzels or beef jerky while sipping on a root’n’rye and overlooking the glorious panorama of the bar.

If you get bored of the North American offerings, head upstairs to the figurative South, where sister bar Little Blood takes the same loving approach to tequila and their Mexican neighbours.
