Down on the corner of Smith Street and Alexandra Parade is a little pub. Previously Irish in theme, this modest watering hole on the cusp of Collingwood and Clifton Hill is now Gasometer and has some Melbourne bar types who know best how to reinstate what we like most about pubs. This team includes the joint forces of those with histories at the East Brunswick Club, Shit Town and Horse Bazaar.

There is barn-like feel within the stone wall surrounds at Gasometer; the interior is one of a polished wood bar and floor with a curving bar, long tables and booths in which to drink and dine. The menu includes some American-style pub food of burgers (meaty NYC style or vegan chorizo), fried chicken, pulled pork and arepas. The beer flows hard and fast from the taps and out of the fridges.

The formula is simple – it’s a clean bar serving pub food in a comfortable environment with a solid selection of drinks.
