Food & Drink

Melbourne’s latest food truck offers a somewhat healthier alternative to the protein-heavy van brigade.

R

emember the iconic Mr Whippy van? The sound of Greensleeves trailing into the summer air as you ran along the hot pavement, coins jingling in your pocket, to hunt down a soft serve? Well, the updated model is here.

Born from an unlikely creative pairing, Yogurddiction hit the street, or rather the park, for the first time over the weekend at Fitzroy Gardens.

With the opening of the business delayed a fortnight due to emergency technical servicing, Yogurddiction is now ready to roll, delivering all-natural products with no added colours or preservatives.

The frozen yoghurt is 100 per cent non-fat, cholesterol-free dairy goodness and the flavours include peach mango, wildberry, green tea and pistachio, not to mention enterprising raspberry pomegranate and New York cheesecake fusions.

You can choose from a slew of toppings, be it chocolate, nuts, fruits and even cereal. Crushed honey macadamia, coconut jelly and fresh strawberries is a winning combination.

“We just want to make our fans happy,” says co-owner Elle Gwee. “Our frozen yoghurt is 100 per cent non-fat and cholesterol-free, it means that it's healthy and people can indulge in our ‘fro-yo’ without feeling guilty.”

Entertain a cup or cone – affordably priced at $4 for a regular and $6 for a large – and slurp away. Roaming around Melbourne, it’s clear that Yogurddiction will be busy in the upcoming spring and summer months.
