Simon Johnson Warehouse Sale

The annual Simon Johnson Warehouse Sale begins this weekend – stock up your pantry for winter.

By Bree Johnson, 1st June 2011

T
here’s a reason the Simon Johnson Warehouse Sale only happens once a year. With up to 75 per cent off all food and homewares, Melbourne food lovers tend to go a bit nuts. It’s not uncommon for people to stagger away from these sales lugging several brown bags stuffed to the brim, wedges of gruyere and tins of truffle salt spilling from the tops.

The New Zealand born chef opened a showroom in Sydney featuring the first in-store fromagerie in Australia back in 1992. Since then, he has led the Australian domestic and imported food market’s journey into gourmet territory. The Simon Johnson monochrome packaging is now instantly recognisable and synonymous with quality kitchen items.

So you see, this is no ordinary sale. Be prepared for polite but single-minded throngs of foodies filling their trolleys with more truffle oil, porcini mushrooms and quince paste than one could ever need.

The best bargains are products with looming expiry dates, but everyday essentials like good quality oils and pastas also prove great value.

Take a friend to keep you company in the checkout line and take advantage of this once-a-year opportunity to stock up on quality essentials and a few luxury items, such as Venchi pure Italian chocolate or perhaps some truffle infused honey.

Sale begins Saturday June 4.
