he races may not be everyone’s caper, but you have to admit that it’s a good excuse to dress up and have a flutter with friends. Lavazza have a similar idea with their Stakes Day party out at Flemington this Saturday (November 10) and have enlisted some creative talent to run the show.

To wrap up a week of races over in The Birdcage, graphic designer from Never Now Tristan Ceddia has been commissioned to design and install the marquee, Misschu will be doing the food and Der Raum the drinks. Think rice paper rolls and smoky cocktails while you place your bets.

Daimon Downey (ex-Sneaky Sound System) will be MCing the event, Sydney band The Canyons has put together a playlist for the day and Michael Delany (from The Bottom End in Melbourne and a swagger of other fun nightspots in Sydney like The Norfolk, The Abercrombie, The Flinders and Queenies) will be DJing. To top it off, Sydney photographer Hobogestapo will be there to capture it all.

It’s the second year running that Lavazza have called upon local creatives and it’s a pretty interesting concept for the Spring Racing Carnival, which seems much in need of a good party. And when the fashion leaves the field, the festivities will roll on into the evening with an after party at Circa.
