Parisian Patisserie Boulangerie

A little slice of Paris in downtown Essendon.

ink your teeth into a perfect eclair and, just for a moment, be transported to the cafes of Montmartre. Acclaimed chef and patisserie owner Neil McKenzie is back and this time he’s wowing the suburbs North of Melbourne with his latest; Parisian Patisserie Boulangerie in North Essendon, where locals regularly queue out the door.

After selling North Melbourne’s French Quarter last year, the pâtissier and his wife have headed back to Essendon (where they previously had St Germain) and opened Parisian in May this year. Four months on they’re bringing what they learned whilst living in Paris to the streets of Melbourne.

We’re told the brioche recipe has taken six years to perfect… and buttery balls of goodness has it paid off! From the Croissant d'Amande almond croissant, to the tangy Tarte aux Citron lemon tart, McKenzie’s dedication to bringing a touch of Paris to Melbourne is evident - a culmination of 17 years as a chef and recent training at Le Cordon Bleu culinary school.

The demure sunny white space and Parisian detailing are a tidy backdrop to the window-full of golden pastries (made with Warrnambool butter no less) and sugar dusted cakes, all baked on site daily.
