Set inside a huge yellow shipping container the team had craned in – with heaters for the colder months and a grated finish to let the sun in during the summer – the Mexican cantina is fitted out with communal tables and bright chairs and is surrounded by its very own herb garden.

The inspiration for the venture came from the overwhelming popularity of Mexican cuisine. Andy McMahon says it was about taking the garden bar idea and making something more vibrant out of it, creating a fun and relaxed atmosphere.

Taking its cues from Mexican street food, the menu focuses on the $6 tacos. Try the pulled pork taco with pineapple salsa, or perhaps the prawn taco with Pepita sauce and salsa verde. Other Mexican street food favourites like nachos and barbequed corn are also on offer.

Wash your meal down with a Mexican beer or a refreshing cocktail. The wine and cocktail list, while short and sharp, reflects the atmosphere and the food perfectly.

A fast and fun lunch or dinner experience at a great price makes this new venture an exciting addition. With an already overwhelming response, we imagine this new venture from the Movida team will fast bring even more city diners to this food hub, with Earl Canteen, Le Traiteur and Movida Acqui in close confines.
