Middle Park Hotel is Open

he rejuvenation of the Melbourne pub landscape is set to hit overdrive with the arrival of two new Gastro Pubs from Julian Gerner (co owner Albert Park Hotel and ex-Public House).

The first, Middle Park Hotel (formerly Middle Park Gunn Island Hotel), opens its door tonight - with what promises to be a mix of ‘old world charm’ and modern style thanks to acclaimed Melbourne architects, Six Degrees. Details include a polished brass kick-rail circling the enormous main bar and a ‘Ladies Lounge’ for more delicate touches.

The kitchen sees a dynamic team with Paul Wilson and fellow Brit David Marshall as consulting and Head Chefs, with the focus firmly on providing ‘real food’; we hear scotch duck eggs with HP sauce is on the menu. But those just looking for a pint will no doubt find something to suit from the 45 beer taps.

MPH will also be offering boutique accommodation from early 2010.

Gerner’s other gastro pub venture, the Royal Saxon in Richmond, is also set to open with a new fit out in coming weeks, though opening dates are yet to be confirmed- stay tuned.
