At Broadsheet, we know that all this design talk would make anyone a little hungry, so in collaboration with A Friend of Mine design studio, Broadsheet has put together the Micro Kitchen. For five days next week, this design-inspired soup kitchen will see a selection of Melbourne’s best designers working together with some of the city’s great chefs to collaborate on custom made soups.

Each day, a different designer and chef will collaborate on a soup of the day, which will reflect both the designer’s practice as well as the chef’s cooking style.

The space and kitchen graphics have been designed by A Friend of Mine and their concept references the relationship between the designer and the chef and the reversing of roles, with designers briefing chefs, rather than the other way round. There will be an irreverence about the space at the Micro Kitchen that features the soup spoon, the chef, the kitchen and a long paper table cloth.

The Micro Kitchen will feature a varied, handpicked bunch of some of Melbourne’s most creative and active chefs, all of whom run their own restaurants and cafes throughout the city. The designers chosen work across various design practices, from graphic design to fashion, architecture and jewellery. Together, these are all people who share a common appreciation for design in their own work and how it affects us on a daily basis, right down to a bowl of soup on the table.

The Micro Kitchen will also feature delicious, fresh sourdough bread from Loafer Bread, coffee from Sensory Lab and local craft beer from Thunder Road.

The Micro Kitchen will be open from Monday July 25 to Friday July 29 from 12pm–3pm and 5.30pm–8pm.
