Lost Pizza Finds a Place in South Yarra

A newish restaurant opens in the back streets of South Yarra and gives a little respite from the Chapel Street madness.

By Hilary McNevin, 28th April 2011

L
ost Pizza sits in a backstreet of South Yarra, an intentional move by its owners, Barossa wine brothers Justin and Dylan Fairweather, who also own The East Village Hotel in Sydney’s Darlinghurst. Being located off the beaten track in one of the more densely populated areas of town, happily away from the groaning madness of Chapel Street, is an appealing move; but while it is on a backstreet (and despite its name), it’s easy to find – on the ground floor of the new Society Apartment building.

The large space is designed with an industrial edge, softened with banquettes and booth seating and stylised with glass jars and graters as lightshades; it serves as an ever-changing room throughout the day: coffee and breakfasts in the morning, pizzas during the day and cocktails in the evening. The pizza chef and co-owner is Lou Maio, and head chef Nathan Scarfo has done stints at Il Bacaro, SOS and Italy 1.

Lost Pizza is set up like many places are at the moment, allowing the diner to use the restaurant as they wish at a particular time of day and tailor their experience to what’s on offer and when.
