Michelle Luckman is bringing icy poles back just in time for summer, only this time they’re gourmet, fruity and much more fun.

I

cy poles reek of nostalgia – the days when feet burned hot on asphalt and melting icy treats left hands sticky all through summer. And like many great things from childhood, the humble icy pole is making a comeback, with gourmet flavours that are slightly more mature, but definitely just as fun.

Born last summer, Lucky Pops Ice Delights is the brainchild of teacher and Brunswick local Michelle Luckman, who wanted to create refreshing, delicious and natural icy snacks.

With an arsenal of secret herbs and spices to rival Colonel Sanders, Luckman uses only fresh fruit, spices and herbs (and no additives) to craft icy creations that simply pop in your mouth. Forget about basic red and orange. Try fruity flavours such as pineapple and chilli, apple and cinnamon, and balsamic strawberry with cracked pepper. And if you prefer a creamy concoction, you might like a banana, mascarpone and blueberry or strawberries and cream pole.

After selling the icy delights to sun-dazed picnickers in Edinburgh Gardens earlier this year, Luckman will be back for summer, armed with a new collection of poles, a chilled pushcart and a Twitter account. From November, she will take on the role of food truck, popping up in Melbourne’s parks and hot spots, with her exact whereabouts to posted on Facebook and Twitter that day.

The collection of explosive flavours ensures you won’t be left with that frosty collection of green ones in the back of the freezer. In fact, we’re sure there won’t be any left at all.
