Flying High at Percy’s Aeroplane

Kew seems to be flying high at the moment with an array of cafes opening in the suburban locale. Percy’s Aeroplane is the latest addition.

By Emma Guthrie, 31st October 2011

W
hen asked to describe new Kew cafe Percy's Aeroplane, owner Wesley Lim responds with "Two café-loving guys and a yellow coffee machine," and the description is spot on.

Operating in a light-filled, high-ceiling interior, painted white with hints of exposed brick walls, Lim and co-owner Michael Smith have put their hospitality backgrounds to good use.

Serving a diverse customer base – from office workers and uni students to mums with bubs – the vast cafe offers breakfast and lunch served in the front and rear rooms, whether on the communal dining table or the courtyard out back.

The menu features salads and sandwiches for those on the run, as well as more substantial dishes such as house-made pies and sausage rolls, prepared with aplomb by Smith.

One of the most pleasant things about Percy's is its strong support of the locals. Their bread is from the nearby Abbotsford Convent Bakery and the beautiful wooden tables were crafted by local furniture maker David Davenport.

Additionally, Percy’s Aeroplane has their own roasted coffee blend and offers single origin.
