If there's one thing the Melbourne coffee industry can pride itself on – other than its patent excellence in producing a quality cup – it is making the best out of a small space. The Melbourne CBD is like a warren of hideaway cafes, tucked in tiny laneways, hidden up flights of stairs, at the backs of buildings and poking out of windows.

But on the ground floor on the parliament side of town, The Fair Trader couldn’t be any further removed from its other city counterparts. Boasting a huge amount of space, with tables for two to 10, there is very little that's not on offer here.

The great thing about The Fair Trader is that almost everything on the menu is available for eat in or takeaway and the long opening hours make it a versatile spot. Offering up breakfast staples from the crack of dawn with coffee from the likes of St ALi, the café also offers a laidback contemporary lunch menu, as well as an incredibly generous selection of drinks for those working late into the night.

It's sure to be a hit with the building occupants and those in surrounding areas.
