Positioned just across the road from its stable mate, Le Hoof, Filly’s Stable is marked by a stable-like, timber-lined entry into a warm interior of antique cabinets and swaying silk lanterns.
Here, you will find the staples for every girl’s wardrobe: the perfect white T, cotton singlets, summer scarfs and sexy knickers, as well as floaty tops, dresses, jeans, skirts and scarves by Kate Sylvester and Jac & Jack to Jago and Queen L.
Co-owners Lauren Nicholls and Lena Mendez explain they favour classic fashion with a slight edge. They don’t buy into trends so much, rather preferring labels whose pieces can be styled to suit a range of customers’ bodies. They also stock a range of homewares, including ceramics, coppery antler coat hooks, glassed candles, cushion covers and cutlery.
The accessories here might make for a nice gift, but will be hard to part with – think Corpus Christi necklaces by a Parisian artisan with delicate pendants, bright bracelets by Jewels Rock and Cat Hammill and handmade clutches by Sous Les Paves.
There are also shoes by Patricia Blanchet and B Store, blankets by Sunday Ganim and watches by Toy Watch.
It’s a little mumsie, but fitting to its Albert Park locale, and there’s a cubby for the kids to play in while you shop.
Filly’s Stable is an eclectic range and will have you dripping in colour from head to toe. You just need to know how to pull it all together like they do.
