Does anyone remember Space Demons, the book about a computer game that ends up with it playing you? Kind of like Tron and it very much sums up our late 80s fascination and fear of technology. When Cyberia opened in the late 90s, the name seemed apt for the time; the internet was really starting to take hold and all things cyber seemed cool.
The literal effect of the name means less these days, but the store – a stalwart of over ten years – carries on, still offering its extensive mix of Italian and Euro labels for guys and girls.
You’d want to be careful in decking yourself out here, but astute selection will avoid any Derek Zoolander faux pas and have you in sharp pieces from DSquared, Alesandro Del Aqua or BCBG, plus a decent selection of Australian designers too. There seems to be very little theme to the selection of stock in Cyberia, instead playing on our own bowerbird lifestyle, which seems to add to the bohemian charm of the space.
