Dead & Buried is the latest newcomer to find a home in the city's creative nesting hub, the Nicholas Building, and with it comes a pop-up retail space – The Quick and The Dead.

T

he expected well-loved tools scatter Dani Maugeri and Steve Phillips’ workshop – journals, books, computers and creative sketches fashion their happily cluttered creative nest. Choosing to relocate from their shed at home, this young, driven couple have chosen to combine a city studio space with an adjoining pop-up retail store (The Quick and The Dead), selling both their own wares – Dani M jewellery and Steve Phillips footwear – alongside local and emerging artists, designers and craft makers.

It's a comfortable set-up that entertains an altruistic attitude to support emerging talents, with the likes of Anita Cummins, Amelie Scalercio, R&t and Turd Circus sitting alongside more familiar names, Dani M, Leah Jackson. Limedrop and Harvest Textiles. Perusing an array of assorted disciplines, visitors to this colourful little shop can select from a well-curated selection of fashion, textiles, graphic prints, books, ceramics, homewares, accessories and jewellery.

On reflection, Maugeri and Phillips recognise the collaborative and community spirit that makes Dead & Buried a notable conduit for bringing people together. Tellingly, they leave their new studio door wide open, encouraging social gatherings, collaborative explorations and, conveniently, a spot of shopping from time-to-time.
