New Bassike Range for Spring Summer 11/12
Australian label Bassike’s new collection fuses beach simplicity and city style. B assike’s new Spring/Summer line sees the Australian label go far beyond the basics they are known for. Designer duo Deborah Sams and Mary Lou Ryan have stayed true to their original aesthetic to create a ready-to-wear collection that seems at home on Australia’s coast and city streets alike.
It is easy to see where the duo’s unique mergence of styles comes from. The designers work from a studio in Sydney’s north with 180-degree views of the coastline, while their store – where you can see their entire collection – sits in inner city Paddington. Bassike’s look is “influenced by the contrasts of loose Australian beach style and the integrity and simplicity of Japanese design”. Bassike started out as just that, basics, and are known for their scoop neck t-shirts and cotton jerseys made from high-grade fabrics and selling for around $80 a pop in over 90 stores worldwide. The new Spring Summer range builds upon these straightforward sensibilities and sees loose cottons paired with casually tailored pieces. A beachy clean palette of bold pastels, navy and white mixes block colouring with stripes, dipping into the occasional pattern. The overall effect is testament to Bassike’s celebration of the simple yet luxurious. <<
