fter graduating from the esteemed Central St. Martin’s fashion college in London, Perth-born Kym Ellery headed to Sydney to pursue a career in fashion. Starting off as a junior stylist for independent magazine Russh Australia, Ellery quickly climbed the ranks, demonstrating a keen eye for talent and offbeat styling. During her four years at the magazine, she was elevated to fashion director and played a crucial role in the ongoing success of the magazine and its unique creative direction.
As a stylist, Ellery worked with the world’s best models, designers and celebrities, and began a dialogue with these influential style makers that flowed on long after she made the transition to becoming designer.
Ellery the label was born in May 2010, when Kym debuted her SS10 Horreurscope RTW collection. Displaying her media savvy and experimental nature, the show was streamed lived nationally to eight different websites, signalling a new force in Australian fashion in the process. It was an instant success, praised by local designers, buyers and the international press.
Since then, the label has gone from strength to strength and has become a mainstay at annual industry awards. In December 2010, Ellery was announced as one of the six finalists in the Woolmark Designer of the Year awards and in January 2011 Ellery was awarded Best Up and Coming at the Prix de Marie Claire awards.
Ellery is stocked at more than 30 Australian fashion boutiques (including Myer) and more than 12 online stores, including the ever popular, Shopbop.
