Today, the infamous orange box makes itself at home in South Yarra’s Le Louvre in a collaboration which is sure to make Melbourne shoppers rejoice.

Le Louvre continues to hold a special place within Melbourne’s retail history. Opening its doors back in 1923, founder Lillian Wightman, was one of the first shop owners to make the ladies of Melbourne fashionable. Luxury was the name of her game and is still the theme maintained in the modern South Yarra boutique. Le Louvre provides the fashionistas of Melbourne with unique collections from across the globe and believes that “fashion, art and design are one”.

In this sense, it came as little surprise when Bali Barrett, deputy creative director of Hermès, decided that Wightman and her little store were to be immortalised with the dedication of a special edition silk scarf. Following collaborations with Liberty of London and Collette in Paris, Le Louvre has been chosen by Hermès to host the brand’s first pop-up store here in Australia.

The unique silk scarf, designed by Barrett, pays homage to Wightman by using the ocelot pattern synonymous with Le Louvre on their signature Monsieur and Madame design. There are two colour ways; one is an orange and brown fusion, while the other is a pink and grey blend. Both fit perfectly into Le Louvre’s dualistic setting, with its contemporary, graffiti-covered staircases and classic, grand gilt mirrors.

The dedication of a specially handcrafted scarf is a true rarity on behalf of Hermès and it serves as a great honour to Wightman and her fashion legacy. Lucky Melbourne shoppers have the opportunity to be part of this piece of history and take home a bit of luxury.

The Hermès pop-up store runs from the November 2 to 14.
