athryn Baulch began crafting jewellery at a young age. “I did the whole gumnut leather thing when I was a kid,” she laughs. “It’s been a lifelong passion.”

After a long stint at Melbourne’s RMIT and working as the head jewellery designer for Mimco, Baulch went out on her own and has been operating House of Baulch for five years now. The brand recently caught the eye of Melbourne-based favourites Gorman, just off the back of the runaway success of their latest collaboration with artist Rhys Lee. So the two brands decided to pair up to create a collaborative jewellery collection of their own, House of Baulch’s distinctly geometric and elegantly edgy designs proving a perfect match for the Gorman aesthetic.

“Lisa [Gorman] and I had been having a few conversations about jewellery and she loved what I was doing,” recalls Baulch. “We thought it would be great to do a collaboration and to adapt some of the designs to work back with the Gorman summer palette.”

And work together is just what they do. Perfectly, in fact. Creating “graphic, pop forms of colour”, the succinct collection sits flawlessly amongst a vibrant summer collection filled with parrots, chessboards and Ipanema-themed boots. “Gorman and House of Baulch share a love of colour, so we are a very good match in this respect,” says Baulch. “Collaborating is about evolving your personal creative vision alongside someone else’s and letting the two points of view germinate into something new.”

The pieces, made from a mix of Perspex, rope, metal and tassels, prove a harmonious balance between Gorman and Baulch’s points of view, so here’s to hoping there’s more to come.
