Mulatu Astatke headlined at this year’s International Jazz Festival but in his 67 years and with an incredible career as a musician, composer and arranger to boot, it seems like a relatively minor achievement. Despite never ceasing to make music, a renewed enthusiasm amongst a younger generation has ensued thanks in part to the re-workings of older material and his score for Jim Jamusch’s Broken Flowers. Mulatu is known as the godfather of Ethio-Jazz his infectious music has the most straight laced tapping their shoes.
