It is hard to deny the rich bike culture embedded within this wonderful city. We all have a soft spot for an afternoon ride around the park and along the Yarra, or share that desire to start riding our bike a little bit more often.
Bikefest is back, and once again it will embrace and celebrate the use of bikes in everyday life, catering for all skills and curiosities, over four fun filled weekends dedicated to celebrating bike culture in Melbourne.
The annual Bikefest will comprise of a variety of events surrounding the celebration of bicycles in everyday life, and the discovery of bicycling subcultures that we never knew existed. The festival, which will celebrate its third year in 2013, provides something for all bicyclists, regardless of age, gender or experience on two wheels.This four week festival will take you all around Melbourne, encouraging you to consider making a bike a part of your everyday life.
Kick-starting the month long bicycle affair is the Bikefest Treadlie Market, a free, three-day event providing bicycle lovers with an abundance of treadlie paraphernalia, unique markets and special events dedicated to celebrating bicycling style. There will be a weekend dedicated to the little riders, Dirtgirl and Scrapboy's Wheelie workshop will have the kids decorating their bikes, trikes, and trailers while learning the do's and don't of road safety. There will also be the Bikefest Village Picnic, the Port Melbourne Bikefest, Pushy Women, and the Move Mindfully short films that will be screened all over the city.
