T
he 2010 Premier's Design Awards ceremony was held last night at the Pixel building in conjunction with the State of Design Festival. These highly prestigious awards, which are presented every two years, celebrate great design contributions across economic, environmental and social initiatives. The awards highlight examples of design in Victoria where design has been effectively, sustainably and strategically used to innovate and increase productivity. There is a single awards category, The Premier’s Design Mark, and no more than five designs at each biennial receive the honourable recognition, making it an outstanding accolade.
Last night awards were given to the following business/designer collaborations:
Woods Marsh architects for the Eastlink Urban Design
Swinburne University for Whizkid Games at The National eTherapy Centre
Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation for their Kitchen Garden Program
Gekko Systems for the Python Underground Processing Plant
Lyons architects for their design of the LyonHouse Museum were also highly commended.
A special mention goes out to our friends at Studio Round who won an award for their iconic design of the identity for the Golden Age of Couture exhibition last year at the Bendigo Art Gallery. The design of this imagery for the exhibition contributed to this show being the most successful the gallery has had with record attendance.
