Chris Bangle is the guy who brought deconstructivism and 'flame surfacing' to cars, simply, the guy who made BMWs more boxy and svelt, some may say. As the chief designer of BMW Group for many years, Bangle knows a few things about cars, inside and out. When he designed the G9 Gran Turismo concept car for BMW in 1992, his design style polarised the industry, generating much controversy among automotive designers, but also labeling him one of the most notorious car designers of the 21st century.

After resigning from BMW last year, his impact on the identity of such a brand is still prevailing. Citing Frank Gehry's architecture as a major influence in his work, Bangle's style has become one of the most radical and influential car designers of our time, as have his ideals about the way we are transported from A to B.

Now an independent designer, Bangle continues to impart his unique insights on future trends in mobility and what is planned for a sustainable and eco-friendly future in automotive travel. As part of the State of Design Festival next month, Bangle will discuss his ideas on our urban environment and how we can make this city one of efficient transport corridors, for all modes of movement.
