Looking at the concept of time in photography in a number of different ways, 'Timelines: Photography and Time' brings together works from the NGV Collection by Australian and international photographers. Images of a moment in time will be explored, showing how photography manages to 'stop the clock' and transport the viewer. Works in series will also be featured, showing how photographers have attempted to create a sense of time through a number of images. Rod McNicol's 'A portrait revisited' shows subjects photographed twenty years apart and brings home the changes time brings with it. The life cycle is also depicted with images of birth, life and death from a range of different artists.
Photographers inclue Edward Weston, Diane Arbus, Walker Evans, Brassaï, Rosemary Laing, Kusakabe Kimbei and Ponch Hawkes.
