With the walls lined floor-to-ceiling with crowded bookshelves, Books for Cooks' passion for quality education and appreciation of food, wine and the culinary arts becomes all the more clear. It is the owners Tim and Amanda White’s goal to help their customers appreciate the beauty of what we consume every day. Indeed, the staff here are avid foodies, with memberships to bookseller and food associations like The Australian Culinary Federation.

Over half of the 30,000 plus books in-store are second-hand or out of print, giving the shop a wonderful vintage feel. The store is welcoming to all levels of cook, from chefs to those in the making. Amateur cooks can get lost in the variety of cookbooks, spanning diet types and specific cuisines as well as titles dedicated to charcuterie, pasta making and pastry. The more academically minded foodies can find philosophical discussions of what we consume and why we consume it.

And if you can’t find what you were looking for, Books for Cooks offers a free search service for rare books. They also house a wide selection of food journals for all over the world, including favourites like Diner Journal from New York City and Fire & Knives from San Francisco.
