Established in 1989, Dianne Tanzer Gallery primarily presents the work of emerging local artists, such as Monash Masters of Fine Arts student Natalie Ryan (known for her taxidermy-like animal sculptures). It also presents some established practitioners such as Juan Ford and Matthew Hunt. The gallery space is divided in two, often showing two represented artists’ new work. Because Dianne Tanzer’s artists are at earlier stages of their careers, her presence in the art world is often felt in the prizes and accolades her artists receive. Two such examples are Reko Rennie and Victoria Reichelt. Rennie, a recent addition to the stable, was awarded the Australia Council Residency in Paris in 2009, as well as being included in Stephen Gilchrist’s Octopus 9: I forget to forget at Gertrude Contemporary Art Spaces. Reichelt, meanwhile, took home the People’s Choice Award in the 2009 Metro Art Award.
