So Frenchy So Chic Musicians

French singers Emillie Simon and Melanie Pain are in Melbourne next week - we've got tickets to give away too.

he unofficial soundtrack to the French Film Festival, Frenchy So Chic is a selection of some of the best music to come out of France each year. The annual quest sets out to carefully select tracks that, like the French, don’t hold a patent on joy, melancholy, passion of even daggy dance moves.

Following the success of a recent So Frenchy So Chic tour to Australia last November with Cocoon and Moriarty, French musicians Emillie Simon and Melanie Pain are in Melbourne next week with a double bill show.

If you’re not familiar with these names yet, perhaps you ought to be. Emilie Simon will be showcasing her third album, The Big Machine, an album she wrote after some time in New York, featuring musicians like Kelly Pratt and Jeremy Gara of Arcade Fire and Beirut’s John Natchez.

Melanie Pain is best known as the lead singer of the French band Nouvelle Vague. Seducing audiences with her breathy renditions of 80s pop, Pain sings her romantically-tinged solo album, My Name, drawing on influences like Nick Cave, Harry Hilsson and Leonard Cohen, with hints of American folk and pop intertwined with chanson.
