The unique and considered retail gallery space of Mr Kitly opens on Sydney Road with a Japanese-style indoor garden and work sourced by international artisans.

By Marie Christodulaki, 3rd December 2010

H
idden above a fabric store on Brunswick's Sydney Road is the unique and considered space of Mr Kitly. Divided between two areas, this retail/gallery is the newest addition to the area’s eclectic mix of op shops, wedding dress stores, old-school barbers, cool cafes and Middle Eastern bakeries.

A quiet escape from the chaotic street below, Mr Kitly is the dream collection of owner Bree Claffey who has sourced work by local and international artisans, including those hard to find Japanese books, zines and zakka, and well as creating a hanging indoor garden, all in a peaceful, sunlit space.

Mr Kitly gallery opens with an exhibition of new works from Mark Rodda, Antonia Sellbach, Oliver Hextall, Georgina Ward and Paul Williams, with plans to host a mix of Australian and Japanese artists in the future.
