Modern Times has returned with its third pop-up store, featuring works by over 50 contemporary Australian artists and designers to complement a vintage collection of Danish mid-century furniture.

I

t's been almost a year since husband and wife duo Joe and Amy Malin launched their pop-up furniture and design store Modern Times. Now, they’ve resurfaced for a third time to present a range of contemporary Australian art and design – including works on paper, textiles, ceramics, jewellery, glass and handmade leather accessories – from over 50 artists, as well as their signature melange of Danish mid-century furniture.

Set a stone's throw away from its previous location, the latest Modern Times pop-up will be showcasing goods in what was formerly the very pink and recognisable Lure hairdressing salon on Smith Street, which, as Amy explains, has now been painted over.

Inside, towering ceilings accommodate a multi-level space, which will be filled with classic pieces such as the Hans Wegner GE-236 sofa and iconic numbers like the Inca Chair by Scandinavian designer Arne Norell.

“This pop-up is seriously the best yet and the art has moved up several echelons,” says Amy. The works, curated to suit the aesthetic of the furniture, include Ellie Malin's delicate prints, Julian Martin’s pastel works and graphic photo collages by Liesl Pfeffer, while Kate Banazi's prints also pack a punch. The list is too long to include in full, but thankfully we know where to find them all.

Modern Times Pop-Up Shop 3 is open from April 21 to June 30.
