This month, a revised version of the festival, dubbed High Noon, brings things down a notch, focusing on the local businesses and talent that make Northcote a cultural and creative hub. It’s more of a cosy and crafty local fair, with outdoor ‘mini stages’ set up to showcase acts like Ron S Peno & The Superstitions Trio, singer-songwriter and flautist Susy Blue and garage rockers The Fearless Vampire Killers.

Playing out on Sunday September 18, from 10am to 6pm, the section of High Street between the Town Hall and Separation Street will be cordoned off to also allow for a length of tables and seating along the tram line. The day will begin with a ‘High Breakfast’, with cafes and restaurants setting up stalls from which to serve up their signature dishes. We hear that Palomino is going to be churning out its scrumptious pancakes with berry compote and yoghurt, which is reason enough to make the trip if you ask us.

If you need more convincing, there will also be three outdoor bars, an olive curing demonstration at Athens Video, a sewing workshop as Alchemy Fashion and a collage workshop with muralist Rebecca Hartley in the designated art space. Oh, and bicycle valets will be on hand to park your pushie at the entrances!

The High Noon street festival takes place at High Street, Northcote, on Sunday September 18 from 10am–6pm. Entry is by donation.
