Film: Blame
An Australian thriller of revenge gone wrong. Blame is the new revenge thriller from Australian writer-director and VCA graduate Michael Henry. The story of five friends seeking justice and revenge n the form of what they believe to be the perfect murder, things don’t quite go according to plan as questions come to light about the true nature of the events leading to their attack. Instead of the closure they crave, they find themselves in a situation of no return that threatens to derail not only their careful plans but also the very relationships and beliefs that brought them there.
Starring Damian de Montemas (Underbelly: Tale of Two Cities), Kestie Morassi (Wolf Creek), and Simon Stone (Balibo), Blame takes aim at the fall-out of rash and emotional reactions to situations people don’t fully understand. About the film, Henry quotes Nietzsche—“He who fights monsters should look into it that he himself does not become a monster”—and this warning lies very much at the heart of this film. Fairly accomplished, beautifully shot (the film is notable as the first Australian feature to be shot on the RED One camera at 4.5k) and with real moments of tension and suspense, Blame has appeared at the Melbourne, Toronto and Chicago International Film Festivals. Although it doesn’t open in Australia until June 16, we have some double passes to give away for a special advanced screening on Thursday night (26 May) at Nova Cinema at 6.45pm.
