Our favourite cocktail bar, The Everleigh, opens its gallery space tonight with a photographic exhibition by David-Ashley Kerr.

T

here is nothing worse than a bad red wine at an exhibition opening – feeling obliged to slug it down for fear of being a performance piece in the show. The Everleigh Gallery is set to put that fear to rest for good, as the space adjacent to the pre-eminent cocktail bar on Gertrude Street opens tonight with an exhibition by local artist David–Ashley Kerr.

The exhibition, titled Introduced Species, takes the form of a series of large-scale photographic works exploring the relationship between man and environment. The images, which stand up to the scale of the gallery space, depict lone male nudes in the Australian bush landscape, illustrating the connection and disconnection to place, landscape and identity.

The Everleigh will be serving up drinks during the opening and it’s just a short skip to the bar next door for a post opening beer, Manhattan or Dark & Stormy.

Introduced Species opens Thursday April 12 from 6pm to 10pm and runs until May 3.
