Driving Miss Betsy The Vintage Caravan
Van for hire, Miss Betsy is a wonderful mix of the delicate and sturdy, all aboard a 1957 Skyline Junior Bondwood caravan. B etsy the Vintage Caravan is a buxom girl. A wonderful mix of the delicate and sturdy, she is a 1957 Skyline Junior Bondwood van who was built in Caulfield and has been taken under the wing of businesswoman Felicity Young.
Young is the woman behind mobile coffee carts Espresso Au Go Go and promotions business The Trigger Team. She hires out Betsy for events to add an element of style and a nod to our history, as “she’s reminiscent of lazy days past”. Betsy can be used as a branding opportunity for the right product; she’s also used as a backdrop to vintage-themed weddings and is a sweet catering option for high tea, where Felicty also provides a vintage Faema espresso machine and baristas. “I’m worried that we may [no longer] see foreshores where families jostle for prime camping spots as our coast is developed for housing,” says Felicty. “Betsy takes us back to [these] simple pleasures and throws in a little nostalgia.” There are other vintage caravans out there – Lola and Daisy in the UK – all celebrating a stylish mix of retro character with contemporary urbanity. She’s not for sleeping but the fascinating aspect of treasures like Betsy is her surging popularity fed by our desire for the presence of objects and artefacts of a time gone by. <<
