Celebrating more than 70 years of Disney animation, Dreams Come True: The Art of Disney’s Classic Fairy Tales, arrives at ACMI later this year.

A

fter the grown-up vision of the current Tim Burton: The Exhibition, indulge your inner child at Dreams Come True: The Art of Disney’s Classic Fairy Tales, just announced as the follow up to the huge ACMI exhibition. Celebrating more than 70 years of Disney animation, the exhibition was first shown in New Orleans as a cultural gift to the post-Katrina ravaged city and makes it’s only Australian appearance in Melbourne.

Spanning the length of the Disney animation oeuvre, the exhibition explores the studio’s adaptations of European fairy tales, from the groundbreaking Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, through to Sleeping Beauty and The Little Mermaid. On display will be over 600 original artworks, including maquettes and animation cels, concept art and character designs. Alongside these will be film clips showing how they are transformed into moving animations. Exclusive to the ACMI showing will be concept artwork and character designs for the upcoming feature Tangled.

As always, a film and education program, along with public events, will form part of the exhibition, allowing for a summer filled with childhood flashbacks.

Dreams Comes True runs 18 November 2010 to 26 April 2011.
