The Curious Explorers Illustrated by Marc Martin

Illustrator Marc Martin unveils some lush new works and a limited edition A-Z pocket book on exotic animals.

By Caroline Clements, 14th April 2011

T
he first thing that came to mind when I saw some pieces from Marc Martin’s new book was Eric Carle‘s The Very Hungry Caterpillar. You see Marc’s images have that familiar, childish aesthetic that is warm and playful. His illustrations, using pen, ink, watercolour and computer, create a world of dense colour and rich textures, and his new works and illustrated pocket book are no exception.

The Curious Explorers Illustrated Pocket Companion to Exotic Animals A-Z is a limited, 30-page artist book for the inquisitive adventurer and those whose eyes are drawn to texture, and lush, colour-filled pages of animal illustrations.

Marc is an all-round talented guy and you have probably seen his work. He has designed identities and collateral for arts festivals, posters, journals, magazines and cards. He is one part of local publishing house And Collective and their imprint Erm Books and is represented – along side some of the best illustrators in town – by The Jacky Winter Group in Melbourne.

Published by Small & Quiet, Marc’s book will be launched at Brunswick Bound this Saturday April 16, from 2–4pm, with some of his bright new giclee prints on display and available to purchase in your letter of the alphabet or favourite animal.

More of Marc Martin’s work can be found at smallandquiet.com.
