he iconic Abbotsford Convent and new kids on the cinema block, Blow Up Cinema, are teaming up to present four special-interest films over February and March in the atmospheric surrounds of the Sacred Heart Courtyard. The short cinematic season will focus on drama and intrigue set against a backdrop of historical religiosity, most fitting for the Abbotsford surrounds.

Blow Up Cinema is a pop up cinema that travels around Melbourne presenting new and classic films in an eclectic mix of venues that are relevant to the film. The traveling theatre is provided by production company Gusto Films, also responsible for Red Hot Shorts.

Blow Up’s hosted their first screening event late last year with the DVD launch of Bansky’s Exit Through The Gift Shop at 1000 £ Bend, as apart of local street art festival Sweet Streets.

Since then they have shown new age classic Chopper at Russell Street’s Old City Watch Tower and Reservoir Dogs again at 1000 £ Bend’s warehouse space.

The films programmed for the Abbotsford Convent and Blow Up Cinema Summer Series collaboration are as follows:

Thursday 3 Feb - The Magdalene Sisters

Thursday 17 Feb - The Nun’s Story

Thursday 3 Mar - Cinema Paradiso

Thursday 17 Mar - The Third Man
