Aesop host Zenta and Meg Tanaka from Cibi, in a celebration of good design in the everyday.

By Phillippa Finkemeyer, 11th August 2011

Cibi will set up shop in Aesop’s Flinders Lane store for one month in a collaboration that demonstrates a mutual admiration for each other’s unique design philosophies.

At the pop-up shop, customers will be offered a cup of green tea to sip on while viewing the Aesop and Cibi ranges. Cibi, meaning ‘a little one’ in Japanese, invokes a sense of delight in discovering of new things. Aesop shares this same train of thoughtful design and aesthetic simplicity.

“Aesop has been a very good friend for a few years,” says Zenta. “We share lots of thoughts together on a philosophy of enjoying life, enriching life with beautiful products.”

At Aesop, Cibi will be offering a selection of wares similar to those at its Collingwood cafe and store, including artisan designed and made plates, bowls, cutlery, glassware and kitchen tools.

“We are going to sell and showcase things that are part of daily life and things that are quietly stylish and useful, which will take a part in everyone’s lifestyle,” says Zenta.

The installation will change over the course of its month-long spell, playing with the concept of the pop-up and interacting with customers and passersby.

Aesop x Cibi begins tomorrow (Friday August 12) and will run for one month.
