A bike design competition celebrates bicycles as part of everyday life and invites you to put a whole new spin on your wheels.

eturning this year as part of the Melbourne Bike Festival in February, the Better By Bike competition is for avid riders and designers alike. In only its second year, Better By Bike invites entrants to submit ideas and concepts to create more sustainable bicycle designs, infrastructure and accessories.

Among last year’s entries were bikes made from bamboo, pedal-powered mobile phone chargers and hi-visibility ‘Don’t Door Me’ stickers for car rear view mirrors.

This year’s winning designer has the chance to ride home with $500 in cash, an Onitsuka Tiger prize pack valued at $750, a two-year subscription to Treadlie magazine and editorial coverage in the June 2012issue.

Entries close on January 20 (next week), so get pedalling in the name of things we love – good ideas, great design and bikes.

The winning designs will be announced at the Better By Bike Awards Ceremony, Sunday February 19, 2pm–3pm at the Bikefest Treadlie Market at the Sustainable Living Festival, Birrarung Marr.

Entires can be submitted via melbournebikefest.com.au.
