Like Madonna, Goldie Hawn, Cindy Crawford and Prince, Australian designer and art director Tristian Ceddia has a beauty spot on his face. And so after years of growing a beard so as to hide his spot, Ceddia decided to celebrate it, paying homage to beauty spots in a book chronicling some of the most famous ones.

“The book is an ode to the beauty mark, which I am kind of fascinated with as an element of attraction, a signifier of beauty,” Ceddia says. “I am interested in this dot as a graphic element added or accentuated on a face. They appear in numerous positions, usually relating to the eye or the mouth, and I wanted to explore this frame shift as a basic concept through a book.”

As well as being an exploration of the beauty mark itself, The Hot Spot identifies the spot as a basic graphic element with black foiling through the hot pink risograph publication.

Printed in a limited edition of 200, The Hot Spot is published by Blood & Thunder and Serps Zine. It is available online at Gang Artelier, PAM Store in Sydney, Someday Store, Parts & Crafts, Wooly Bully and Perimeter Books in Melbourne, Printed Matter in New York, Family in LA and Colette in Paris.
